Navigating through Disney Dreamlight Valley involves completing numerous friendship quests that unlock powerful tool upgrades. One pivotal quest given by Merlin, titled The Final Trial, requires players to gather rare ingredients to upgrade their Royal Watering Can. Among these ingredients, the Ice Heart often causes confusion for players who search the valley expecting to find it growing naturally in cold biomes.
Understanding How to Acquire the Ice Tear Seed
Unlike standard forageables, the Ice Heart cannot be found lying on the ground or buried in snowy mounds. Instead, players must obtain the Ice Tear Seed directly from Merlin upon progressing through his level 10 friendship quest. This special seed is placed into your inventory after inspecting the enchantment book provided during the storyline.
If you cannot locate the seed in your main bag, make sure to check your personal storage chests in your house. Players occasionally store special quest items accidentally before realizing their purpose. Once you confirm the Ice Tear Seed is in your inventory, you are ready to cultivate the Ice Heart.
Where and How to Plant the Ice Tear Seed
Many players assume that the Ice Tear Seed must be planted in the Frosted Heights biome due to its icy theme. However, the seed can actually be planted in any dirt patch across any biome in the entire valley. Whether you choose the Plaza, the Peaceful Meadow, or the Glade of Trust, the growth process remains identical.
To plant it, simply equip your Royal Shovel and dig a single hole anywhere on suitable ground. Select the Ice Tear Seed from your seed menu to plant it, then switch to your Royal Watering Can to water the crop. Within just a few seconds, the plant will sprout into a glowing blue stalk containing the Ice Heart.
Harvesting and Using the Ice Heart for Merlin
Once the plant fully grows, approach it and press the harvest prompt to collect your Ice Heart. The plant itself will disappear immediately after harvesting, as it is a single-use quest item. You do not need to worry about replanting or losing the resource after it is safely in your inventory.
With the Ice Heart secured, combine it with Falling Water and 25 Mushrooms at any crafting station. Crafting these materials yields the Royal Watering Can Upgrading Ointment required by Merlin. Handing the ointment over to Merlin completes the upgrade, allowing your tool to permanently clear the large purple mushrooms blocking paths throughout the valley.
